I currently work at Harvard Business School in External Relations on the Student & Young Alumni Engagement team. It is a huge privilege to have access to the Extension School to further my education, which is something I have wanted to do since graduating from The Ohio State University in 2013.
I have always loved art (my “sport” in grade school) and design. That combined with my passion and gratefulness for access to education of all varieties, is why I am pursuing both the Learning Design & Technology certificate and the Digital Media Design degree…and maybe a Visual Arts certificate – we’ll see! These will certainly help me advance within my current role at HBS and assist me in future roles at the University, especially with the rise in using technology in education.
In a dream world where I have all of the time and knowledge to do so, I would love to help develop a learning technology program that brings art history education to schools that otherwise would not have it. This is something I personally experienced growing up in a rural, low-income community in Central Ohio where funding for the arts was limited. Our one art teacher was already at capacity with her course offerings and since the school couldn’t afford a second art teacher, additional electives that students certainly had interest in (art history, photography, screen printing) were not possible. Skills developed in art history can help students in many other subjects and throughout their academic and professional careers, which is why I would love to see it in more classrooms!
